May 1 is Labor Day in France. Workers demonstrate in the streets before going to parties and dance halls. But the Meunier family will do neither as the mother is about to give birth. She wants to be with her mother and sister, and asks her husband and their seven-year-old son to go to a soccer game in order to be out of the way.
