After receiving an important phone call, Andrea decides to leave the city and go back to the University where she studied neurology on Salerma Island. There she discovers that Maria, one of her old professors, has recently committed suicide, leaving an experiment she was doing, funded by the Faculty Rector's Office, unfinished. The project consists of a way of transmitting information between computers and living beings using certain sleep phases. When Andrea takes up the experiment again, numerous secrets come to light and she starts to experience disturbing episodes of insomnia.
