At the centre of this tragicomedy are out-of-work decorator Hans Moll and his wife, recently promoted to security guard and working hard on her career, as well as former actor Ms Wellinek and her husband, an unemployed physicist. Their lives change when beautiful German-Russian Jewgenia moves in next to them. You Are Not Alone explores the effects of unemployment and what it means to have reached a crossroads in life. With its true-to-life characters and down-to-earth, affectionate humor, it tells a story of everyday life and the yearning to start over and do it better this time around.
