Synopsis The sequel to the series Lumière! brings back to life another hundred Lumière films, all immaculately restored, and aims above all to more deeply explore the history of the invention and affirmation of “cinema” in the world. Audiences will find confirmation that the beauty of cinema today owes much, if not everything, to its roots. COMMENTARY The sequel to Lumière! The Adventury Begins gathers close to one hundred films by the Lumière brothers, all perfectly restored. Following the success of its predecessor, this new feature-length film confirms to audiences around the world that at the basis of the finest films in the history of cinema are its profoundly French, and at the same time international, origins. The soundtrack is borrowed from the works of the French composer Gabriel Fauré, a contemporary of the Lumière brothers. The film was conceived and is narrated by Thierry Frémaux, the general manager of the Institut Lumière. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT Next year will mark the 130-year anniversary of the birth of cinema. Maëlle and I are anticipating this date and at this time are putting the rarest or entirely unknown films by the Lumière brothers at the disposition of the public after their restoration in the laboratories of L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, and the CNC in Paris.
